Mullican FSC products are available upon request.
Mullican Flooring - Mullican Flooring was founded in 1985 with the singular idea of creating the highest quality hardwood flooring in the world. The company's founders knew that a combination of precision milling, advanced kiln-drying techniques and the most demanding inspectors available would allow Mullican to become the world leader in quality hardwood flooring.
Mullican's exclusive process of making the finest hardwood flooring starts in the Appalachian Mountains of the eastern United States, which are well known for their prime, slow-growing hardwoods. The lumber is separated by species and transported to one of Mullican's five manufacturing facilities, which are located in Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky and NewYork. These facilities house state-of-the-art machinery that reduces both labor costs and time, while enhancing the overall product. This ensures that the customer receives the best quality flooring available.
Each piece of lumber is pre-dressed to a uniform thickness and stickers are placed every twelve inches. The wood is then stacked and slow dried. Each piece is straight-line ripped to remove any side bend. The most efficient kiln-drying process in the industry is used to maximize the stability and minimize the movement of the wood during the warm and cold seasons. Each piece of wood is automatically checked by an in-line moisture meter.
Unlike other companies who only spot check their lumber, Mullican's experienced professional graders inspect every inch of the flooring during each step of the process, so the milling quality and grade of Mullican flooring is consistently of the highest quality. Other quality control specialists make sure the moisture content and milling are always consistent.
Mullican goes to great lengths to create flooring with unmatched quality and precision. For the professionals who insist on Mullican flooring, it means floors that are easy to install and problem-free. They enjoy unequaled savings on labor, waste and call backs, while giving their customers the ultimate in satisfaction.
Mullican Flooring is also committed to the environment. The company utilizes all scrap and waste of the tree. For example, the bark removed from the trees is used as mulch and the wood chips are used in the kiln during the drying process. Mullican is also dedicated to forest management and supports the sustainable, renewable supply of raw materials to ensure there will be plenty of forests available for future generations.
Mullican offers a complete line of unfinished solid flooring that includes clear, clear quartered and select-quartered oaks, herringbone slats and specialty species such as ash, cherry, walnut, hickory, hard maple, red oak and white oak. Plank is available in three-, four-, five-, six and seven inch widths in a wide variety of species. Rustic grades are also available. Mullican offers a complete line of prefinished solid flooring that includes oak, maple, cherry, walnut, hickory, rustics, hand-sculpted products in three-, four-, five- and six-inch widths and an extensive selection of exotic species.

Cork - is the outer bark of the evergreen cork oak (Quercus suber). This variety of oak grows mainly in Portugal, Spain, southern France, Italy, and the North Africa.
Cork is sustainable. It is harvested by stripping the bark every nine years. Each cork oak tree provides an average 16 harvests over its 150-200 year lifespan.
Cork harvesting is one of the best examples of a sustainable agro-forestry system, where people use the natural resources around them without disturbing or destroying nature. Cork harvesting has been a way of life in the Mediterranean for at least a thousand years. The forests are ancient.
Harvesting cork is a highly skilled job: even the axes are specially designed. Cork cutters make precise incisions into the cork bark and then strip it off the trees — like peeling a skin away from a banana. An experienced worker can gather up to 1,300 lbs of cork each day.
After harvest, each tree is painted with a big white number to indicate when it was last stripped. The trees are left for nine years to allow the cork bark to grow back and then the whole process starts again.
After the wine corks are cut from the bark, the remaining cork is used to make flooring.
Cork consists of a tight web of up to 40 million cells per cubic centimeter. The cell membranes retain gas, giving cork its capacity to float, insulate and re-expand quickly after compression.
Cork is natural, recyclable and biodegradable. No natural or man-made material replicates its properties.
Cork retains unique qualities of flexibility, elasticity and compressibility. Its extreme resilience, impermeability, lightness and insulating efficiency make it ideal for a large number of flooring applications. Cork is hypoallergenic, mildew, moisture, dust, and pollen resistant. Cork is anti-static, it is recommended for use where computers and electronic equipment are used
Cork can be used anywhere in the house (below and above grade) because it is flexible, water-resistant, soft and warm.
